Shatalin Viktor Vasilevich (1926 - 2003)

Born in the Saratov region. Since 1939 he studied at Leningrad School of Art in the Academy of Arts of the USSR. When he was 16 years old he went to the front, became the "son of the regiment" of the first Ukrainian front. After the WWII he attended the drawing lessons at the Republican art school, since 1947 he studied at Kyiv Institute of Art under the guidance of K. Trokhymenko, G. Tytov, K. Yeleva, M. Sharonov. In 1957 for the painting "In the valleys and on the hills" which was exhibited at the all-union exhibition in the State Tretyakov Gallery he received a silver medal of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR. In 1960s Р 1970s he worked on the paintings, which were dedicated to the historical monuments of the Russian North (Rostov, Novgorod, Suzdal, etc.), made a large number of lyrical sketches. Participant of numerous art exhibitions. Member of the Artists' Union of the USSR since 1957; he was elected a secretary of the Board of the Artists' Union of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and a secretary of the Board of the Artists' Union of the USSR. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1964, Awarded the most honorary and the highest title of USSR for outstanding artists "People's Painter" since 1967. Since 1973 he taught at Kyiv Institute of Art, since 1976 - professor. Corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR since 1978, winner of the State Prize of the USSR named after T. Shevchenko since 1984.His works are in the museum of Ukraine they are exhibited on the auctions and the western galleries.
