This is a huge spotted hyena skull cast in durable urethane plastic. Length is 11 13/16", width is 7 5/16, for a total score of 19 2/16". The spotted hyena is the infamous strong-jawed scavenger of the African plains that travels in large packs known as clans. Although stereotyped as a cowardly scavenger, hyenas are more than capable of taking down their own food, and in some parts of Africa they actually do more killing than prides of lions that live in those areas. And unlike lions, they can use their heavily enameled teeth to crush all but the biggest bones and devour pretty much all of a carcass. The last photo is of this cast with the skull of a record book black bear (that weighed 550lbs) which is shown only for size comparison.
