The lavishly mounted silent film costume drama/romance MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE was released in 1924 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Sidney Olcott, starring Rudolph Valentino. When M. Beaucaire, a handsome barber, catches the Duke of Winterset cheating at gambling, Beaucaire exacts Winterset's cooperation in sneaking Beaucaire into a great ball, disguised as the Duke de Chartres, and to introduce him to the beautiful Lady Mary. The disguised barber successfully pulls off the masquerade and is soon the toast of society. But Winterset is embittered at having been blackmailed so, and he sets out to destroy Beaucaire if he can do so without revealing his own duplicity.

The image features a stunning interior medium shot depicting the beautiful Princess Henriette (Bebe Daniels), wearing a gorgeous white dress and holding a fan, as she enjoys the attentions of the handsome Duke de Chartres (Rudolph Valentino) as he stands behind her while tenderly holding her left hand. Both characters are wearing gorgeous period French costumes of the upper class. The sets and costumes for this production were extremely lavish and you can clearly see the fine embroidery and other details that the Paramount artisans crafted for this production. Printed on single-weight stock with a glossy finish, this vintage original photograph is in very fine- condition with only a 0.75 in. surface scratch on the left border that just barely enters the image area where the emulsion has come off; a tiny nick on the top of the left border; a 0.75 in. diagonal crease in the top of the right border; a slightly rounded bottom left corner; and a small smudge in the bottom border near the right corner. There are no pinholes, tears, or other flaws and the image quality is razor-sharp with beautiful rich contrast.

In 2002, we purchased a large collection of over 1,500 photographs exclusively on Rudolph Valentino and we shortly thereafter began selling the copy photographs. After maintaining these photographs in our archives since 2002, we are now pleased to offer some of the vintage original photographs to advanced collectors.
