NiZn Battery Review:
Pros:
1. High voltage 1.6V
Generally rechargeable AAA and AA batteries are made of NiMH or NiCd which is only 1.2V.
While many electrical devices prefer 1.5V high power cells, especially high drain devices, like RC car toys.
2. No memory effect.
3. Environmental friendly.
Cons:
1. It needs special high voltage NiZn charger.
2. It is very sensitive and needs very very very good protection from over-heat, over-charge and over-discharge.
3. It is not popular in the market because of prices and sensitivity. You cannot buy NiZn batteries or chargers everywhere.
4. Self-discharge rate is not good. You have to charge it before use if you stored it for more than 3 months.
5. Not cheap.
According to feedback from customers, we hear two voices.
Some say that’s really bad!
Some say :”wow! It is awesome!”
There are reasons. NiZn batteries are too sensitive!
NiZn batteries are like babies. They are afraid of:
1. over heat: More than 40C degree during charging or 60C degree during use can make Zinc material change.
2. Over discharge: if you use it in a wireless mouse which generally discharge batteries until 0.7V will make Zinc material change and destroy batteries. It is better to end use at 1.1-1.3 volt.
3. Long time storage after full use: if you use until battery is dead and just leave it in the device, that will destroy battery. So keep the batteries with capacity. Do not use it until it is dead.
4. Over charge: It is dangerous because NiZn has different structure.
5. Low charging current: Charging hours should be no more than 6 hours no matter what charger you are using. Those smart chargers are generally with low current charging current which may destroy NiZn batteries.
If you want to buy batteries for your clocks or wireless mouse such kind of low drain devices, NiZn is not a good choice.
If you play RC cars or other high drain devices, NiZn batteries can save you from charging batteries all the time.
While you need to take care of your batteries like your baby and you will love them.
