Selecting clipped or unclipped Razor wire?

The simple answer is Clipped Razor wire offers a denser profile that has no gaps of a sufficient size for someone to be able to squeeze through. Each loop is clipped to the next in either 3 or 5 places along the whole length of the concertina coil and therefore cant be over stretched.

Unclipped razor wire, sometimes referred to as “Helical” Razor wire is simply one single strand of Razor wire formed into a spiral. The problem with this is when extended a gap is created (as in the image below) and intruders can spread the Razor wire apart to step through it.

Unclipped:

CAUTION: Please note that when comparing products some suppliers do not quote the number of turns or loops, so one of their coils could contain half the amount of Razor wire! They may also claim that their coils extend further, but unless their coils contain at least 55 loops all this is doing is stretching the Concertina to a point where it is no longer effective. Additionally, the blade size affects the price, CBT65 has a large 65mm blade where as BTO20 has a 20mm blade.

If not stated, its safe to assume its a very small blade. Other factors are the amount of zinc used in the Galvanising process, this determines the products  durability, all our galvanised Razor wire has 200g/m² zinc coating.  Some suppliers only supply 60g/m² which will rust very quickly. Finally, the core wire should be at least 2.5mm diameter to give the Razor wire the correct strength.

When comparing prices with other suppliers please check  :

(a)

The coil diameter when extended to 10m

(b)

The size of the blade, the bigger the blade the better

(c)

The level of zinc coating (galvanising)

(d)

The number of loops per coil

These are all ways some suppliers will try get away with supplying you an inferior product
