The (steel) shaft is not particularly thick, but it would still take a considerable time for a hacksaw to get through it; the lock has a four-bladed key (rather than the normal single blade) and looks difficult to pick, although I suppose any lock can be picked by an expert.But the point is not that the steering wheel lock is impossible to break or pick: nothing is. The point is the deterrent: if someone is absolutely determined to steal your car, they will; whatever security you fit. This lock deters the thief who wants a car but not necessarily yours: most cars don't have a steering wheel lock, so the thief will go for one that doesn't have one instead of one that does, simply to avoid the extra layer of defence, which takes him time to get through.Some locks won't fit on modern steering wheels with lots of controls on and under the wheel: this one is simple and looks like it will fit on most wheels.
