PERIOSTEAL ELEVATOR - MOLT 9 

Periosteal Elevator is primarily used to lift full thickness soft tissue flaps. The tips will require protection and thus need to be kept very sharp otherwise shredding of the flap can happen. Moreover, periosteal elevator is an instrument of many uses and is included in most surgical tray setups.It is often used to detach periosteum ( bone covering) and gingival tissues from around the tooth from prior to the use of extraction forceps. The Periosteal elevator is also used to reflect and lift the mucoperiosteum (mucosa and periosteum) from the bone. Periosteal elevators are double ended instruments with various working-ends combinations. Often one end is pointed and the other is rounded.
The most common types in them those are in use are the double ended Molt 9 but also the Molt 2 and Molt 4. Other types available are Periosteotome, Fedi and Ochsenbein chisels.
