Yak-7 was the result of alteration of training aircraft Yak-7UTI in combat fighters. Compared with the best at the time Soviet fighter Yak-1, the new aircraft was easier to fly and had a more robust design. The main modification was the Yak-7B. Yak-7B Armament consisted of ShVAK motor gun with ammunition 120 rounds, and two synchronized machine guns UBS with a total of 400 rounds ammunition (left gun - 260, right - 140). Furthermore, under the wing of an overload could hang six RS-82 or two bombs 25 to 100 kg each. In the summer of 1942, the aircraft started to put the forced engine M-105PF, which greatly improved the flight characteristics of fighter aircraft at low altitudes. All were released 261 Yak-7B M-105Pa and 5120 Yak-7B M-105PF. Yak-7B was the main and the best Soviet fighter in 1942. He fought the majority of Soviet Guards regiments and a lot of aces - Heroes of the Soviet Union. In this model, the aircraft is presented Hero of the Soviet Union, Captain Pavel Tarasov Kalashnikov, where he fought in the 812 th Regiment (third Fighter Aviation Corps) in the autumn of 1943.
