"Rostislav" was the seventh of the eight battleships, the construction of which the 20-year program, the creation of the Black Sea Fleet has been provided. It was conceived as a type of small craft with powerful artillery, which has a small displacement, good seaworthiness and reduced draft, which would allow it to operate in coastal areas of the Black Sea. Since May 1, 1900 to January 1, 1903 the battleship commanded by Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich Romanov. In 1905 the battleship participated in the suppression of the mutiny on the Black Sea fleet, leading the execution of the cruiser "Ochakov" and knocked out the destroyer, which was trying to escape Lieutenant P. Schmidt. October 10, 1907 "Rostislav" was reclassified as a battleship. In May 1909 at the approaches to Sevastopol under the stem "Rostislav" lost submarine. He participated in the First World War. January 8, 1917 became a member of the Red Black Sea Fleet.
