Enhanced Liver Of Sulphur Patina Solution15ml - 100ml (approx)

I have been working on a Liver of Sulphur patina solution that I can use to get the same effect as heating copper but without the having to use a flame

The one that I have created is based on Liver of Sulphur but I have added a couple of other chemicals so this solution will add a very nice iridescent rainbow if you follow these directions,

Mix the solution at 25ml to 1 litre of water at approx 60 - 70 deg C

Wash / pour the solution over the copper

Wash of immediately with clean cold water

Please see the copper in the picture for the effects I have achieved, the Purple / Blue area of the copper in the picture.

You can also leave the copper / silver in the solution to get an aged vintage / antique looking patina's all the way to complete black, the right hand end of the copper and silver have been left in the solution for 30 seconds or so.

Silver has a blue grey colour with hints of rainbow in the background.

I haven been using this particular solution for several years now and I am obtaining very good consistent results with fixed colours that have not faded.

This concentrated liquid should be diluted at a ratio of about 40:1 (25ml will make approx. 1 litre of solution) with hot water (I use water at about 60 deg C) but this ratio can be adjusted depending on how quickly you want the colour to develop, the less concentrated the solution you use the easier it is to control the colour generation.

Some of the colours that can be generated are shades of purple, blue, black and coppers in many different depths and hues from complete deep black to the lightest purple greys.

Once you have the colour that you want you can add to the interest of the piece by polishing it back the to reveal / create surface textures.

To extend the life Liver of Sulphur it should be kept in a dark cool environment until it's mixed for use.

PLEASE NOTE

This patina solution is slightly corrosive so needs to be handled with care especially before being diluted.

DO NOT mix this solution with any acids.
