PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These authentic green Turkana beads were worn by the people of northwest Kenya. Less prominent but slightly more numbers than the Maasai, the Turkana people are one of the major ethnicities of Kenya. It is customary for the women to wear necklaces made of beads such as these. In fact, the Turkana people are known for their elaborate clothing and decorations which are used to indicate different characteristics including age and status. These older Turkana beads were derived from an elaborate necklace worn as part of the traditional costume. Look closely and you will see the age of these beads apparent in the smooth texture of the glass. Green Turkana beads such as these are harder to find.
