British Aerospace BAe Harrier GR.Mk 9
British RAF No.1 Squadron ZD-432,
RAF Cottesmore, England

This model is a quality miniature replica of the British Aerospace Sea Harrier GR. Mk.9 VSTOL fighter for the Royal Navy. Flown by fighter pilots of the British RAF No. 1 Squadron, this particular Harrier was named "Dirty Harry".

Most of the British Harrier fleet returning for the last time from operations in Afghanistan were overhauled, repainted, repaired and sold to the USMC, but not ZD433. The Curatorial team at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton made the decision not to restore the aircraft, instead it will be kept in its battle weary condition. Now nicknamed ‘Dirty Harry’ because of its condition, it stands as a unique time capsule reflecting recent military history and the impact of operations on an aircraft operating on today’s front line.

Designed to meet a NATO specification for a light tactical support fighter that was also capable of Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing (V/STOL), the Harrier first flew in 1960. This unique aircraft has the distinction of being the only successful V/STOL design out of the many that were put forth during the 1960s. There are four different versions of the Harrier, which uses thrust vectoring to achieve V/STOL: the first generation Hawker Siddeley Harrier, the Naval strike/air defense BAE Sea Harrier, the US AV-8B Harrier II variant and the British BAE Harrier II. The Harrier was produced between 1969 and 2003.

The suggested retail price for this high quality Italeri Dreamwings Collection 1:100 scale diecast metal model airplane is $25.00
