Andover Theological Seminary

NECROLOGY

1895-96

Prepared for the Alumni Association

and

Presented at its Annual Meeting, June 10, 1896

Published: Boston, MA, Beacon Press

1896

A rather interesting collection of obituaries, circa 1895-1896 of Alumni and some non-graduates of the Andover Theological Seminary,.

Interestingly printed in this collection are obituaries of Edward Beecher, son of Lyman Beecher and the brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry Ward Beecher, and the obituary of Samuel Francis Smith who wrote the lyrics to “America”, (My Country, 'Tis of Thee).

I am sure there are other notable obituaries among the 56 which are printed in the pamphlet. It will be fun research.

Bound in printed wrappers, stapled binding, pp. 181-235, 5 ½  x 9 inches, some unobtrusive  faint age tanning and light soiling to front covers otherwise in very good condition, tight and intact, odor free, not ex-library.

Pencil notation on the front cover: Rev. Louis McDonald Obituary.  The Rev. was of the class of 1826 and in his obituary it states that “his mind became unsettled and was an inmate of the Vermont Asylum at Brattleboro until his death”

A truly rare copy of this title, no copies for sale at on line bookseller sites and a WorldCat search locates no copies in institutional holdings. This is a nice opportunity to add this to a history of 19th century American religions reference library.

Domestic shipping will be $3.25 by safely packed first mail; Canada will be $12.50 and international shipping will be $18.50.

PayPal accepted.
