Vintage or Antique Handmade Dress & Bonnet

This Sweet China Doll would be a quite a treasure for someone starting or adding to their China Doll collection. Her lovely old dress is hand sewn and suits her perfectly!

BACKGROUND This type of low brow shoulder head China doll was produced from the late 1890s through the early 1900’s. Some of her clothing is sewn on so we cannot see all of her body. We do see an impressed dot and the word “Germany” on the back of her shoulderplate. We will take lots of pictures so you can see for yourself. Please feel free to ask questions.

HEAD This wonderful diminutive Antique China Head Doll is about 9 inches tall. She has a beautiful pale white face with molded black curly hair and a sweet yet serious look. Our girl has rosy red cheeks, pretty blue eyes and orangey red pursed lips with exposed lower ears.

Her black hair is parted in the center and styled in the low brow style popular in the 1880’s through the early 1890’s. She has curls or waves on both the side and the back of her head. She is wearing an adorable bonnet made of brown velvet and old lace.

CLOTHING Our sweet doll’s darling dress was handmade with a lovely tan ribbed fabric bodice and skirt! Her overskirt made of antique lace highlights the back and sides of her skirt. At her waist is a brown velvet bow which matches her velvet bonnet.

This pretty young lady girl is also wearing two old hand sewn slips and muslin bloomers trimmed in lace.

BODY Her clothing is sewn on so we cannot see much of her body. Her torso and upper limbs appear to be handmade of muslin or another thick cotton fabric. Her lower arms and cupped hands are white bisque. She has plump bisque legs and painted brown shoes with low heels.

Originally, China head dolls were sold with just a head and sometimes arms and legs. Either doll factories or their new owners completed the doll. She is the perfect example of a handmade antique doll.

MARKINGS The only mark we could find on her is an impressed dot and “Germany” on the back of her shoulders. She came with a tag pinned to her slip on which was written “Linda Biela.” She also has a Museum tag.

SIZE Our petite dolly measures a little over 9 inches from bonnet to shoe.

CONDITION This pretty old doll is in Very Good Vintage condition. We did not notice any cracks or crazing on her head or shoulders. You can see only a small part of her cloth body under her clothing. It appears to be in very nice shape. Her outfit is very lovely and fits her perfectly! Her dress and undergarments are in Very Good Condition.

OWNERSHIP: The Bill N Peg's Interesting Things eBay store is operated by Bill N Peg's Interesting Things LLC, a limited liability company chartered in the State of Maryland.

PAYMENT: As required by eBay, we list only PayPal as a means of payment.

SALES TAX: We collect a 6% sales tax from Maryland residents on purchases from our store, as we are located in this state.

SHIPPING: We are usually able to ship within 1 business day of payment verification. We ship through the United States Postal Service, and we try to offer our customers the most appropriate postage options. We obtain a tracking number for each mailing.

SHIPPING CHARGES: Our basic shipping charge is set to cover postage and shipping materials, plus a small handling charge. We purchase postal.insurance for more expensive items, and eBay requires Signature Confirmation delivery for items costing $750 or more. In some cases, we will require Signature Confirmation for certain items costing less. We add these costs to the total shipping charge for more expensive listings. If a shipping charge estimate is too high, we refund the appropriate amount to the customer after we have shipped the item and verified the actual cost.

COMBINED SHIPPING: We are usually able to offer combined shipping discounts. Assuming that multiple items can be appropriately shipped in one box, we begin with the charge for the heaviest item and add between $1 and $5 for extra items, depending on weight and additional packing material needed. The added charge could be more for unusually heavy or large items.

International customers: We are happy to offer combined shipping discounts to international buyers. The added charge for extra items can be higher than in the case of domestic shipping due to higher postage rates.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Bidding from international customers is welcome! We accept PayPal payments only from other countries; we do not accept checks or currency. As noted above, we will combine shipping for international customers whenever possible and include the savings in our shipping charge on the invoice. We ship using Priority International Mail through the US Postal Service if a package weighs four pounds or more. When it weighs less, we also offer First Class International as an option. Please be aware that Priority International packages can be tracked while still in the United States, and they can be insured. First Class International cannot be insured, and so the customer assumes a risk for this less expensive choice. Also, please be aware that we do not mark items as "gifts" or report lower sales values on customs forms.

Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying.

We are happy to have sold a wide variety of items to our international friends and to have received excellent customer satisfaction feedback from them.

RETURN POLICY: Returns are accepted for refund within a 14-day period of the receipt of the merchandise. We will refund shipping charges and return postage when defects or item characteristics were not noted in the original sales listing. In other cases, the refund covers just the purchase price. A returned item must be received in the same condition as when the item was sent.
