This is a brand new Boss SD-1 modified to the TS-808 Tube Screamer circuit. I started out modding these for my own use and then, by popular demand, started modding them for friends. They went wild over the great classic tone of this pedal. The mod is a standard TS-808 Brown mod but with Boss' patented asymmetrical clipping left intact allowing for “more volume, harmonics and crunch.� My modified SD-1 includes both the Texas Instruments RC 4558P Op-Amp chip and hallowed JRC 4558D so that you can try them both out and decide which of them you prefer. The original Tube Screamers used either of these chips depending on when they were produced, and I think the RC chip is a bit warmer sounding than the JRC but they both sound great so it's really just a matter of preference. The pedal ships with the JRC chip installed but I will gladly swap them out for you if you prefer.
I also use carbon composition resistors for that sweet classic 60's tone. The ace in the hole here and what separates it from other TS-808 mods is the Nichicon audio grade capacitor. This is a high-end audio grade capacitor, is very tough to come by and really makes all the difference when it comes to tone and clarity.
This Pedal Mod now includes a whole new range of sounds. Not only does it give you that great classic TS808 Tubescreamer sound, but now it also gives you a hot-rodded high-output Tubescreamer sound that is accessable via the new + switch.
These are brand new pedals fresh out of the box, and were only ever plugged in and used to test the consistency of their tone.
