For auction is a lovely pen tray made by Tiffany Studios of New York, New York. The pen tray is done in the "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the very popular Verdi (Green) brown. The stained glass is the green white opalescent Favrile glass. The pen tray stands 3/4" tall, 9 11/16" wide and is 2 15/16" deep.

The pen tray displays an acid etched pine needle overlay pattern on a green white opalescent stained glass. It has three pen or pencil holder grooves crossing the inside of the etched pine needle overlay in two areas. You can use up to 4 pens comfortable and could probably fit 6 inside the holders. The pen tray sits on four bun style feet. The patina is a craftsman brown with highlights of Verdi green. There is very minor ink stains like dots along the wall. This is considered common and it does not detract from the beauty of this piece.

The pen tray is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or chips to any of the glass. The Pen Tray sits somewhat even and shows no signs of damage on the front and top views. The pen tray is properly signed on the bottom with the "Tiffany Studios New York" impressed mark with a very small font. This is a very early signature mark.

Tiffany started numbering his desk set pieces usually with a 3 digit number after 1902. Since this piece has no pattern number and a very small signature font denotes this as very early. This pen wipe was made circa 1895-1898.

The Pine Needle pattern was one of the first desk set patterns created by Tiffany Studios. Those of you who are looking for a very good early example of this pen tray in the Pine Needle pattern will be delighted with their purchase.
