Antique Gibbs Children Seesaw Teeter Totter

Perpetual Motion Tin Toy

This is an antique Gibbs tin toy with boy and girl seesawing on a teeter totter made between 1900 and1910.    It has the original wood base. The Gibbs Manufacturing Co. of Canton, OH, originally made plows and farm machinery.

In 1896, the company added toys, specializing in lithographed paper-on-wood, metal, wagons, spinning tops and advertising toys.  The company's first toy was a political spinning top given away in William McKinley's presidential campaign.

This cute toy articulates well swinging back and forth and up and down with a gentle push. It is in good condition for age with expected paint loss from play.  The base board lays flat with only the slightest wobble when the toy is in motion.  The metal poles are securely fastened.

The overall size is 6 1/2 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches wide.   It needs about 10 inches for swing space.
