DFl1.5 Common Rail Injector Bleeding Procedure.


Some Delphi injectors have been reported to suffer from the control valve sticking on
fitment (air lock), this is due to continuous actuation of the valve before diesel fuel has had
sufficient time to lubricate the valve and valve seat therefore there is metal to metal
contact. In the absence of a High Pressure Fuel System Bleed function on a diagnostic
tool and to improve component lubrication during bleeding the below procedure should
be followed to prevent internal parts sticking/seizing.
The recommended bleeding procedure is as below.


1. Fit injectors to vehicle, observing all cleanliness and torque settings.
2 .Fit new seating washers and high pressure lines and torque to spec.
3. Leave all injector electrical connectors disconnected and crank engine for 7-10 secs.
4 .Wait for 15 seconds to prevent overheating of components.
5. Crank engine again for a further 7-10 secs.
6. Reconnect injector electrical connectors and crank again to start the engine.
7. Clear all fault codes from engine management ECU.
8. Coding each injector to ECU and pilot relearn.


In addition to the above procedures it is imperative that all open fuel fittings be
covered/capped at all times when working on Common Rail Fuel Systems.
