Antique Kashmir Paisley Shawl with Coral Center, 19th C (130" X 60”)

Breathtaking over-sized paisley shawl elaborately designed with traditional Kashmir styling and jacquard hand loom woven in wool.

Vibrant color combinations featuring amazingly green and white coral field, Mid-nineteenth century European example, likely from Scotland, where most European paisleys were produced in the Scottish town of Paisley. Amazing workmanship and detailing. Maroon selvage side edges with fringed ends. . Every prominent, fashion conscious Victorian woman had at least one as part of her trousseau.

In very good condition for its age and previous use as an outer shawl used by Victorian woman to protect her elaborate clothing on important outings where a coat would be too cumbersome or nearly impossible over the larger bustled skirts of the day.

  There are no repairs/mended or tears! There is one hole as big as chick peas and some very tiny holes—hard to spot them.  There is no damages (color faded or blotch)--See picture!   This shawl never being washed dry-cleaned or pressed.  This shawl is in its original state.   This shawl is smoke-free and has no odor.
