Imperial German, Great War, Navy Line Officers Belt Buckle without side fastener from the Kingdom of Prussia. This buckle was most likely in service prior to 1888 when Germany had 3 Kaisers in one year. The reason for this conclusion is that Wilhelm II had the II added to Navy Buckles to differentiate between him and his grandfather. Prior to Tirpitz taking the helm of the Imperial Navy it was an extremely small part of the German military. The Officer's Visor Cap pictured is NOT INCLUDED. Side fasteners are periodically available on eBay should you desire to make this item into a belt rather than display this buckle with others in your collection. Imperial Germany was a federation of twenty-seven kingdoms, duchies, principalities and "free and imperial cities". By far the largest of these components was Prussia, whose King also bore the title of German emperor.

NOTE: I currently have one side fastener available for $50 that is not a perfect match to this buckle should you wish to have this buckle made into a belt.
