Truly Spectacular!

This Delphinium is a beautiful and tall plant.  Flowers start purple color with a hint of royal blue.  Little by little the colors change to a Royal Blue with a hint of purple. They are Make great cut flowers.  I started the plant in the picture from seed 4 years ago. It attracts lots of bees, bumble bees and hummingbirds.  

  • Perennial
  • Plant seeds indoors; 8 weeks before last frost.
  • Plant seeds outdoors: after danger of frost.
  • Zone 3 -9
  • Full sun or partial shade
  • Water regular
  • Soil: well drained
  • Height: 4 - 6' tall
  • Blooms: from spring to fall
Planting advice: 
  • If not sown immediately keep the seed packet in a standard fridge to maximize the life of this seed type.
  • To maximize germination, seeds should cold-treated (stratified) first.
  • Place the still-sealed packet in the salad drawer of the fridge for a week or two.
  • Surface sow on fine free draining compost and very lightly cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or fine vermiculite.
  • Best placed in propagator 50-55F or inside a clear polythene bag in order to maintain humidity.
  • Exclude light until first seedlings show.
  • When large enough to handle transplant into pots and grow Delphinium plants on gradually acclimatizing to outdoors conditions after all risk of frost has passed.
  • Plant to final growing position when large enough, 18in apart in moist well drained soil in full sun sheltered from strong winds.
  • if necessary, provide support to the plant.
  • Protect from slugs and snails.
