SOY BEANS

 This species is native to eastern Asia where it was first 

cultivated in China around 3000 B.C!!!

It was an essential crop for the ancient Chinese who 

regarded it a necessity for life.

Soybeans today are a major global food crop (second in volume 

in the U.S. only to corn). They are grown mostly for their protein 

and oil rich seeds, but also for forage, cover and green manure. 

Additional non-food uses such as bio diesel fuel are 

becoming increasingly significant. 

Since the 1970's there has been a marked increase in the 

consumption of traditional soy foods and the development 

of other soy foods which simulate traditional meat and 

dairy products such as soy milk, soy sausages, soy 

cheese and soy yogurts.
