Sewing pattern details: "Hats A, B, C come in sizes XS, S, M and L. Beret A has contrast decorative knot. Pillbox B has contrast bow and binding. Hat C has contrast bow and drape. Hat D has brim stand and contrast under-brim. All views are lined and have purchased embellishments."
This pattern was designed by historic clothing specialist Nancy Farris-Thee for Butterick. She graciously answered a message from me, asking her for more specifics about the styles. Here is her response: Hat A. is a beret - mid 20th century. WWI in this instance. Hat B is a 1940's pillbox. Hat C is one version of a Boater. This is a very versatile hat that with wider or more narrow brim and higher or lower crown, [could] be easily changed to span a lot of time. Here it is used with a WWI era suit. Lastly, the little velvet hat is from 1870-1880."
