DIMENSIONS: The cup's diameter is 3 1/2" with a height of 2 1/4". The saucer's diameter is 5 7/8" with a height of 7/8".
HISTORY/MARKS: In 1877 Thomas Wood, along with his brother William, purchased for £5075 a site on Navigation Road in Burslem, Staffordshire, UK. They called it the New Wharf Pottery which they had occupied as tenants since 1875. This pottery operated 1878-1894 and was acquired by Wood & Son in 1890. The New Wharf Pottery mark incorporated the Stafford knot and was continued in use until 1894. Geoffrey A. Godden’s Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks cites this mark as mark #2886 used 1890-1894. The cup is unmarked, but obviously matches the saucer which is marked.
