The foliage then turns red-purple in summer and offers a final show of bronzed yellow and gold in the autumn. Contrasting with the bronze spring leaves in April and May are masses of deep pink to light purple flowers that hang in pendulous bunches on the branches. The flowers turn into dark red crab apples which remain on the tree well into winter.
