Work performed: Troubleshooting revealed a failed 100uF/25V electrolytic capacitor (cap) in the power supply, causing the 12V power rail to drop to zero. Replaced all four 100uF/25V caps in the power supply and deck started behaving normally. Maxed level meters are gone. Removed transport for cleaning and inspection. Both belts are stretched and ineffective and idler tire has worn significantly spreading rubber dust throughout transport. Discovered five of seven leaf switches have high resistance and intermittent continuity. Cleaned all switches and verified <1Ω resistance. Also discovered the azimuth adjustment mechanism feedback potentiometer (pot) is very hard to turn. Cleaned pot and tested for free travel and smooth electrical output. Verified azimuth limit switches are working. Replaced reel motor due to repeated stopping during play after transport was reassembled for testing. Lubricated all motor and capstan bearings. Replaced well lamp. Replaced stripped transport lower mounting screws. Reassembled transport with fresh grease/oil where appropriate. Set guide height. Verified head zenith (tilt) is correct. Replaced all remaining electrolytic caps in the power supply for reliability. Cleaned all non-sealed switches and pots. Checked known problem orange drop polypropylene caps – OK. Checked memory lithium battery – OK. Performed visual inspection of all circuit boards for any issues and touched up a few suspect looking solder joints. Reassembled deck and performed complete calibration in accordance with the factory service manual using the required special test unit DA090101A. Used TDK MA, SA and D tapes to perform record calibration. Tested machine for several days to ensure no stopping problems with new reel motor. Using previously mentioned tapes and auto calibration, the following performance results were documented: Distortion @ 0dB 345Hz EX: < 0.84%, SX: < 0.58%, ZX: <0.62% W+F: <0.035% WRMS (JIS), 0.04% peak Freq response @ -20dB EX: 11-22.5kHz +/-3 dB SX: 10-22.5kHz +/-3 dB ZX: 10-23kHz +/-3dB, 20-20kHz +/-1dB.
