SUPERB GEORGIAN MAHOGANY SCRIBES PORTABLE DESK COMPANION/TIDY c1809/1814
This is a fabulous and rare item, beautifully patinated and in excellent condition.

Three large ink pots, each with turned wood lids, stand on the top of the main body of the stand. The three are in very good condition with only minor rim nibbles to one of them. Two are fixed to wooden bases which slot into position on the top of the stand. The other slots directly into the stand.
There are two hinged quill boxes on the top of the stand one of which has a lock and original key.
The stand also contains a full size drawer in the base, again with a lock and original key. Please see the photos.
The quill boxes have small turned knobs and the locks have escutcheons made from a fashionable and contemporary material (I don't think it is bone.)
The whole stand has a turned wood carry handle on sturdy brass supports.
Inside the drawer is a paper label which reads:

Anthony Wrangham and his relatives operated at a few different addresses in and around New Bond Street from the mid late 1700's. Preliminary investigation indicates that he operated from No. 161 from 1809 to 1814.
A fabulous item which oozes character and for those who appreciate the 'history' or provenance of an item it is clearly very desirable and very collectible indeed.
