"Dr. Devil and Mr. Hare" Cel

Proudly presenting “Dr. Devil and Mr. Hare”! It's well known that Bugs Bunny loves to stir up trouble for his adversary from Down Under, the Tasmanian Devil. But what's not so well known is that Taz prefers his wonder drug, nitroglycerin, shaken, not stirred. Inspired by Robert McKimson's Merrie Melodies cartoon of the same name, Dr. Devil and Mr. Hare anticipates Taz's weight reduction in the most explosive manner. The fact that the Tasmanian Devil became such a popular character after so few appearances (Dr. Devil and Mr. Hare was just the fifth cartoon to feature Taz) is a testament to not only the talents of McKimson but also of Warner Bros. story men such as Sid Marcus and John Dunn. This limited edition cel began with a Dan Haskett drawing based on a scene from Dr. Devil and Mr. Hare. From this drawing Helene Hartman created the master inking which was then silk-screened with the Warner Bros. seal onto an acetate sheet (or "cel"). Each cel was ink-enhanced by hand before being hand-painted on the reverse side. The background by Ruben Chavez was reproduced on acid free paper using a lithography process. The edition number was hand-inked on each cel in a special edition size of only 250 pieces. Upon completion of the edition, the original artwork was archived.
Unframed, this Sold Out from the studio, limited edition hand-painted cel measures 12 1/2” w x 10 1/2” h and was produced in a small edition size of only 250 pieces in 1998.  A great gift for any WB fan!
