Signed A Montader 87
A Remarkable French Maritime Scene Of Sailors
A highly detailed & fine character study
pen & ink sgraffito technique drawing on card.
The back of the drawing has the artist's name
Pierre Marie Alfred Montader: in pencil
& the title of the scene ****** des matelots in ink
Probably for a book illustration
It measures 6.75 inches by 6.5 inches
(17 cm by 16.5 cm).
Condition
A thin diagonal black smudge line (Starts in the top corner & ends near the
boys head) the 5th + 12th images show it best.
Small crease to bottom left corner
Small areas of losses to black ink
Sgraffito Scratch Ware Technique
A top surface of black ink is delicately scratched away showing the white colour of the base
This creates a chiaroscuro effect strongly contrasting the light & dark
I hope my close up photos show the delicate cuts & scratches.
