These cards were issued in 1966 by TOPPS during the height of "Batmania" that was greatly influenced by the Campy Hit ABC TV Series Starring Adam West as "The Caped Crusader" and Burt Ward as "Robin The Boy Wonder". The twice weekly TV Series featured a host of weekly guest appearances of assorted dastardly and iconic villains such as the Joker, Riddler, Cat Woman and the Penguin. The series is now revered and has achieved mega Cult status and is only rivaled by Star Trek for most beloved 1960's TV series and aired 120 episodes from 1966 to 1968.

In response to Batmania and The Batman's sudden surge in popularity Topps issued a total of Five different Batman Sets that included Series #1 aka as the Black Bat /Orange Back Set, Series #2/A aka the Red Bat Set, Series #3/B aka the Blue Bat Sets (2 Variations), Batman Color Photo Series aka the Bat Laffs Set and the Riddlers Riddle Series aka the Riddler Back Set.
