DESCRIPTION:
Offered for your review and consideration is this wild and very exciting Modernist infused, opalescent handmade glass platter in the form of a flounder fish, with layered sgraffito-like drawing over the clear glass, realized with semi-transparent white glass glaze. The 'drawing' if you will on the clear glass surface is not only highly detailed but fresh, gestural, extremely kinetic and painterly. The vocabulary is strictly linear and line and repeated freely drawn line dominate the surface, with repeating line giving the impression of tonality and mid-tone grays. The flat form of a flounder fish, which lives along the bottom of the cold Atlantic ocean, is further realized by this detailing, complimenting the form of the fish by its edges and overall shape. It's signed 'Walter' along the edge of the plate, as the American glass artist Edwin Walter is known to have done. It's without flea-bites or material loss to its edges, glass bruises, abrasions or scuffs. A simply splendid mid-20th century cultural artifact. Gorgeous.

CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition. Pristine, nearly immaculate shape. Literally, not a single mark on it. Really a gift, a generous gift from the gods.
