Brayton's Laguna Beach CA Pottery Circa 1940's Set of Two Pineapple Shaped Serving Dishes

Durlin Brayton opened his ceramics studio in 1927 in Laguna Beach CA after graduating from the Chicago Art Institue.  He made functional dinnerwares, serving pieces, bowls, etc from his handpressed molds.  In the late 30's he switched to hand decorated figurines and artware growing his business into a manufacturing company.  Business closed in 1968.

These two pineapple serving dishes are mold formed, the body has two layers of clay, and glazed on the insides and the greenery.  The bottoms and a little edge on the outside of the dish is bisque clay only, no glaze.  Very nice set circa 1940's.  Hallmarked on the bottom, Brayton's Laguna Beach CA.  The larger pinapple dish measures 7 3/4" x 17" x 2 1/2"H.  The actual bowl measures 10 1/4" x 7 3/4" x 1 1/2" deep.  The smaller dish measures 4 1/4" x 10 3/4" x 2 1/4".  Both are in very good pre-owned vintage condition with no chips or cracks.  The smaller dish does have some glaze chips at the tips of the pineapple - see photo.  Does not take away from the look of the piece.
