We are pleased to bring you this incredibly exciting pair of circa 1920s antique solid bronze bookends. They are inscribed "The Cheshire Cat", and I think you'll readily agree they are most obviously inspired by the timeless classic Alice's Adventures In Wonderland. This is a RARE and extremely SCARCE item.

What a wonderful, whimsical design. The grinning Cheshire Cat is in the center, with a grinning moon and sparkling stars over his shoulder, the rooftops of London in the background, and two smaller cat compatriots beside him - both with the same humorous grin. And of course, it's a mouse running in the gutter beneath his feet. The legend "THE CHESHIRE CAT" is engraved on the lower front edge of both bookends.

The back of each has a distinctive mark that reads: "Rd No 699774 ENGLAND"

The condition of both pieces is excellent, with the bronze patina only age can impart. No visible damage, flaws or repairs. This is simply a fabulous rare find.
