Scott's Last Expedition.  In 2 Volumes published by Smith, Elder & Co., London, UK, 1913.  Both are very good minus, first edition books, no dust jackets.  Ex-lib.  Navy cloth covered boards with gilt text on front panels; gilt text and graphics on spines. Front panels have a blind-stamped border around all edges.  Upper external page edges are gilt.  Side and lower edges are untrimmed.
"With Photogravure Frontispieces, 6 Original Sketches in Photogravure by Dr. E. A. Wilson, 18 Coloured Plates (16 from Drawings by Dr. Wilson), 260 Full-Page and smaller Illustrations, from Photographs taken by Herbert G. Ponting, and other Members of the Expedition; Panoramas and Maps."  Both volumes are complete as to plates, photogravures, panoramas and maps.  The photogravure and colored plates all have tissue guards.  One anomaly is in Vol II:  The index of Illustrations lists "The Launch of the Pram" and "Campbell and Priestley Afloat on Pancake Ice" as being on page 94, it is actually inserted at page 298.  There are no watermarks.  There is foxing, usually heavier around the plates, but the text is easily legible.
Vol. I.  Being the Journals of Captain R. F. Scott, R.N., C.V.O.  Professionally repaired as to board spine external gutters and edges at head and tail of spine which are now stable.  Front and back panels are scuffed, more so on back panel which also has superficial scratches.  Edges are scuffed but only the fore-edge corners are rubbed through.  External page edges are foxed.  Internal text is foxed, mostly around the margins and on tissues.  Text block is snug. Advertisement in the back for "Re-Issue of the Dictionary of National Biography."  Library label attached to back paste down.
Vol II.  Being the Reports of the Journeys & the Scientific Work Undertaken by Dr. E. A. Wilson and the Surviving Members of the Expedition.  Scuffs and rubs on front and back panels.  Spine is darkened.  Edges at head and tail of board spine are softened and with several vertical chips, creases, some splits and frays.  Spine folds are rubbed but holding.  All edges on panels are scuffed but only the fore-edge corner tips are rubbed through.  Lower right fore-edge corner on front panel is bumped.  Foxing to external page edges.  Text pages are foxed, mostly around margins and on tissues.  Back inside gutter is cracked but text block remains stable.  Library label attached to back paste down.
