This listing is for one antenna that was purchased new and then custom fine-tuned using lab grade test equipment to obtain a higher performance level across a specific UHF frequency range.  Our antenna is first class “Like, Kind,Quality” (LKQ) as the original known-brand antenna, with an added outstanding high performance level, and is made in the USA!

Your antenna will have a final VSWR of 1.5:1 or less across your frequency range choice for true high performance with FM narrowband analog or digital communications range.  If you need a frequency range that is different from what is listed please let us know. The antenna heights will be between 2.25 and 3.75 inches tall for UHF. The lower frequency ranges will have the longer lengths.

Note: Our antenna will also work on the multi-band portables ONLY if the portables are programmed to only operate in the specific tuned frequency range of the antenna.  Operation on any frequency outside of the tuned frequency range of the antenna will have poor to no communications range and may cause damage to the multi-band transmitter.  We have no plans for offering a multi-band antenna since true high performance cannot be achieved with a one-size-does-all antenna.  Fact: Just because an antenna fits and looks good does not guarantee performance!

No laws of physics are being broken with our short stubby antenna.  They are just enhanced to their limits with the proper lab grade test equipment, our craftsmanship, and our RF experience to create a very high performance antenna that solves a real need for our customers. 

A resonant tuned antenna will always outperform any same size or larger non-resonant untuned antenna from any OEM or aftermarket source.  We have duplicated the fact that most unknown poor quality, aftermarket, non-resonant, or untuned antennas will actually absorb or reflect most of the RF power just like a dummy load, while drawing excessive current from the portable radio battery. Our tuned antennas allow the portable radio transmitter to draw less current during transmit with the same or a higher RF output level with an added bonus of longer portable radio battery run time capacity.  Proper tuning of an antenna takes time and China does not have the time to do things right with the associated labor cost since their goal is only pure profit and not quality. Our company fills a definite need in the marketplace for customers that demand a great quality portable antenna with the highest performance possible at a fair price.

SPECIFICATIONS

The outside antenna covering is made of black flexible PVC with a bottom weather skirt to protect the RF connection on the radio housing. The bottom of the each SMA antenna connector has a color coded stripe system to identify the tuned frequency range as shown in our photos. We use silver solder on all reworked internal antenna connections. Our C05 tuned antennas will have a total height close to the advertised approx height plus or minus 0.125 inches needed for precision VSWR tuning as measured from the bottom of the weather skirt to the top.  The approximate antenna heights are listed in the FREQUENCY RANGE antenna variation choice box at the top of the page.

 

The retuning of the known-brand antenna achieves a minimum signal gain of up to +3dB as compared to any untuned antenna which can effectively double your transmit and receive signal power due to the very low VSWR.  Our retuning also allows for a much smaller antenna height without any loss of performance by eliminating all of the unused empty space inside the antenna.  Our tuned antenna will only operate with performance in the advertised tuned frequency range.  Please see the certified performance graphed images of this custom tuned high performance antenna.

Others have tried to imitate our work by testing portable antennas using coax cable jumpers, an inline watt meter, and other simple amateur radio grade meters.  Their inaccurate results were always disappointing as seen on many blog sites.  A true antenna test requires a much higher grade of calibrated test equipment, experience, and a valid test setup just like we use for each of our antennas.

 

We have witnessed portable radios worth many thousands of dollars using cheap unknown quality untuned OEM antennas get beat out in performance by users with radios one forth the cost using our fine-tuned antennas. It is a fact that the most important part of any radio communications is the antenna system.  The antenna is the device on a radio that converts RF power into radio waves during transmit and radio waves back into usable signals on receive.  All transmitted and received signals must pass through the antenna system for any radio to work.

 

A respected radio engineer once said, “If you had 100 dollars, invest 99 dollars in the antenna system and 1 dollar in the radio and you will always have great communications”.  After many years of our own experience we have found that this statement to be true especially for today’s FM narrowband radio communications.
