DESCRIPTION:
This wonderful early to mid 19th century Japanese 'Ukiyo-e' color woodblock print by Japanese woodblock printmaking master artist Utagawa Sadahide (a former pupil of the Japanese color woodblock print master artist Utagawa Kunisida) is in relatively well-preserved overall antique condition. The colors remain vivid and saturated. There appears to be some slight lessening of the image and color intensity along the top margin in the atmosphere. There's also a very small, darker stain along the upper margin, the size of a small button. The image is otherwise clear, crisp, superbly rendered and artistically realized. The overall composition of three samurai warriors dressing and preparing their personal, layered armaments, is well balanced and seemingly effortlessly accomplished. The indigo, cerulean and slate blue, tangerine, sienna and charcoal black are wonderfully proportioned and balanced and the piece enjoys saturated, intense color, as well as faint washes, illustrating the subtle, master craftsmanship of the artist. An exciting, well accomplished figurative print, enjoying superb draughtmanship and exquisite detailing of the samurai warrior's antique military outfits. Handsome and in well-preserved overall condition. Gorgeous.
