For sale are the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 and Sony Cybershot DSC-W510 cameras for parts/repair.Both turn on, but the shutters do not open.
The Panasonic Lumix was about 1-2 months old before it was taken to the Sahara Desert on a 2 day/1 night trip when the sand was blowing a lot. It was working fine at the time, but towards the end of the trip it would only turn on and attempt to do its auto-opening of the shutter with the motor only moving the optical zoom unit forward and back a few millimeters a few times before stopping to give a "SYSTEM ERROR (ZOOM)" message. It was never dropped and never had any other issues. I assume there is some sand inside that needs to be removed.
The Sony Cybershot was less than 1 month old when it was dropped by someone taking my picture. It fell onto the optical zoom unit which was somewhat extended out at the time and had become displaced so it was no longer pointing straight. I forced it back into place, then it closed and has not opened since. Unlike the Panasonic Lumix with its motor running and moving the optical zoom unit, this camera only turns on and does not attempt to open its shutter, only giving a "Turn the power off and on again" message.
