A Muselet (pronounced MUSE LAY) is a wire cage that fits over the cork of a bottle of champagne or Belgian beer to prevent the cork from popping out of the bottle under the pressure of carbonated contents. The name is French and it comes from museler, to muzzle. The muselet often has a personalized metal cap called a plaque which may be imprinted with the beverage or brewer's logo or emblem. These little plaques make for an interesting collection. The cork, plaque and wire hood are normally covered by a metal foil envelope and then twisted with a tool.
