A hakkake is a replaceable lining that is sewn inside of the kimono to protect the edges which easily get worn or soiled from contact. Since it protrudes slightly, the hems and cuffs of the hakkake will touch surfaces first before those of your valuable kimono and can then be replaced with a new one.

Most hakkake are solid colors but some are subtle prints or gradated colors called "bokashi hakkake”. The color of the hakkake will effect the impression of your kimono so it is very important in the world of kitsuke. This is why sometimes people change their hakkake when it is still in good condition if they grow tired of it or just want to change the look of their kimono.

This one is of superior quality, white & red gradated silk bokashi hakkake. It is in flawlessy perfect condition in its original packaging with tags still attached. You can find directions on the internet for how to sew it in.
