Very scarce American Tanya. Printed in 1953, which was the very first American pocket edition (32mo, Trigesimo-Secundo) of The Tanya printed by Kehot and the new Rebbe in The U.S.A. This volume is complete, including all blank pages and end pages, there is no writing in the interior whatsoever, it is clean. לקוטי אמרים תניא

According to what I know about the early editions, there were at least 3 32mo sized Tanyas printed in 1953. One with a grained black cover, with the Kehot emblem at the bottom of the spine and 'Likutei Amarim Tanya' at top of spine, which is the type you are looking at right now. A rarer brown grained cover with an identical spine. And then a rare third type with red covers which only has a Kehot emblem at the top of the spine, but without any other writing on the spine. Also, the grain on the covers is more pinpoint. I am not sure which of the last two are rarer, because I have only seen in my memory one of each in my whole lifetime. All three are identical interiorally from what I can see, the only differences are the exterior. All have 430 pages plus a half page with Kehot emblem on overside. Then 5 thin blank pages, then one thick end-page.

Now when comparing to the next print in 1958 there are many differences.
A. The font for the Hebrew word 'Tanya' on the cover of the 1953 is shorter then the one on the 1958. Also the spine wording is thinner and more blocked on 1953's with the wording.

B. All the 1958's have a matte smoother finish and not grainy.

C. There are many interior differences:
1. The placement of the wording on the first title page is different. 2. The telephone PResident 8-4600 is omitted on the second page of the 1958 3. The printer 'Noble Offset & Printing Co. New York 12, New York' is omitted in the 1958 4. In the 1953, after page 12 there is no 'Zayin' on the opposite page, but was added in the 1958. And similarly with after page 18. And that's why the Hebrew page number font on those two pages do not match the other pages in the 1958. 5. The greatest difference is that as the 1953 has 430 pages, the 1958 has 436 pages. 6. The title pages of 'Moreh Shiur' at back are different. 8. The over-all page discrepancy is due to the 1958 having a few more pages of facsimiles of the earliest Tanya editions at the back.
