GIVE A GIFT OF HISTORY. COULD BE LAST ONE AVAILABLE ANYWHERE!  A VERY INTERESTING SMALL PAIL.  QUITE THE PEN HOLDER.

This is a beautiful antique silver soldered  bucket from the famous Techau Tavern, which once personified the old Barbary Coast past of early San Francisco. The Techau Tavern was originally located at 125 Mason Street in downtown San Francisco and was completely destroyed during the 1906 earthquake and fire.
While it is possible that this bucket survived the quake and fire, it most likely was a souvenir before the disaster struck.
The bucket measures apx 3 1/2" inches wide and 3 3/4" tall.by the Rogers Bros.  Markings on the bottom read as follows:  1847  SILVER SOLDERED NICKEL MERIDEN 0140 [MAYBE AN EAGLE DESIGN].  Some fine scratching on the bottom from surviving this long.  Iinterior has some finish discoloration, The "Techau Tavern" engraving is very discernable and the overall condition is antique good.
Also a marking on the bottom like a "1".  The 1847 represents the founding of Rogers Brothers.  In 1862 Meriden Britannia Co. bought part of Rogers Bros.
