Description
A very nice13 inch (33cm) diameter charger plate or shallow serving dish in the Quimper style made by Pouplard-Beatrix of Malicorne, France. The plate is decorated in the typical Breton style of a man in traditional costume smoking a pipe while standing amongst floral sprays. The charger is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or edge flakes. The charger is 1 1/4" deep. Marked on the back 'PBx'
In 1898 Porquier filed a suit against Pouplard alleging that his 'PB' mark too closely resembled the Porquier mark of Quimper. The court sided with Porquier and Pouplard was ordered to add an 'x' to his mark.
