DIMENSIONS:
 13 ½" Height x 11 ½" Width (frame)

DESCRIPTION:
There's some faint tanning where the previous mat board was placed over the watercolor painting. This occurrence is faint and the work appears to be an original frame and mat presentation. The watercolor painting has since been placed in this current period 1950's black enamel wooden frame and the painting was allowed to extend to its initial, original margins, now sitting directly under glass. This isn't an optimal situation but it's how the work was found and the painting hasn't since been removed from its frame. The brown paper backing had previously been removed. The watercolor painting is wonderfully realized, with masterful attention to detail, a restrained and economic use of color and material. The snowy giant white egrets are portrayed with a real familiarity demonstrated by the artist and this closeness and awareness of nature and in particular, of this particular species of fauna, the snowy great white egret or heron, is evident and plain for all to see. A glorious Japanese Post WWII Modernist work and watercolor painting. Extraordinary.

CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall vintage condition. There's some foxing that occurs on the paper surface, distributed all over the surface of the watercolor painting. This represents small dots of burnt sienna or sepia brown. They're barely noticeable and are only seen upon rather close examination of the work. The watercolor painting however, doesn't suffer from any creases, paper loss, moth larvae damage, water stains or significant color depreciation. It may not be perfect but it is indeed, still beautiful and a compelling work.
