In the preface to this book, the author writes: “The Soviet Park, being a resting place for tens and hundreds of thousands of workers, and at the same time creating a favorable environment for a number of important events in the field of political education and cultural services for the urban population, naturally occupies one of the most significant places, both in terms of and in the internal structure of urban entities <...>. And now in every city and in almost every working village of our Union, the construction of a park is planned, and in If there were only Moscow Culture and Recreation Park in the Soviet Union six years ago, then by now, according to far from complete information, there are already more than 150 cultural and recreational parks under construction that should be genuine proletarian centers of culture and health.The central task of the book is to systematize and develop standards for the design and construction of parks, as well as systematize experience in the field of Soviet and partially foreign PROD architecture. "

The publication is richly illustrated with rare documentary photographs depicting domestic and foreign parks, events held in them: sports games, rallies, exhibitions, etc. A large number of projects are presented, both embodied in life, and remained only on paper. The text is supplemented by numerous maps and schemes of parks, park buildings, photos and schemes of the first attractions..

В предисловии к настоящей книге автор пишет: "Советский парк, являясь местом отдыха десятков и сотен тысяч трудящихся, а вместе с тем и создавая благоприятную обстановку для проведения ряда важнейших мероприятий в области политического воспитания и культурно-бытового обслуживания городского населения, естественно занимает одно из наиболее значительных мест, как в плане, так и во внутренней конструкции городских образований <...>. И теперь в каждом городе и почти в каждом рабочем поселке нашего Союза намечается строительство парка, а в отдельных случаях и целой системы парков. И если шесть лет назад в Советском Союзе был один только московский Парк культуры и отдыха, то к настоящему моменту по далеко не полным сведениям насчитывается уже свыше 150 строящихся и частично функционирующих парков культуры и отдыха, которые должны явиться подлинными пролетарскими очагами культуры и здоровья. Центральной задачей книги является систематизация и разработка нормативов по проектированию и строительству парков, а также систематизация опыта в области советской и частично зарубежной парковой архитектуры".
