I grew up with kimono and this is from my personal selection series of Kimono and kitsuke accessories; items that I find to exhibit a special quality, either exceptional design, superior workmanship or just something quintessentially Japanese about them…

Tomesode of this type were normally purchased for someone about to get married with the expectation that they would be worn for special occasions. Normally, the brighter the colors used, the younger the person it was intended for.

The design is a gorgeous cluster of plum blossoms with hand-embroidered edges. It is made of luxurious black silk with 5 “Nanatusboshi” crests and a white “Hyoku” lining that is designed to make it look like you are wearing two layers. Note that it is rather heavy for this reason. The plum blossom artwork which wraps from the outside to the inside is absolutely stunning!

It is in excellent condition and has been carefully stored so it has no stains or odor. It came from Kyoto and was no doubt owned by someone of wealth and social standing as it would have been very costly when new.

Note that due to reduced flights, JAPAN POST has suspended Air Parcel service to the USA, Australia and a few other countries (Europe is not effected). It is not known how long this will last but in the meantime, we are using JAPAN POST SURFACE mail which has tracking and insurance but can take about 60 days to the USA.

Alternatively, for an additional charge, YAMATO INTERNATIONAL offers extremely fast door to door service for a flat-rate for their various size boxes. The smallest “60cm” box is $30 to most countries, can hold up to two kg and measures 27 X 19 X 19cm and arrives in about a week.
