All of our jewelry is handmade from Vegetable Ivory (Tagua seeds). The Tagua Palm only grows in the northern region of the South American rainforest (mainly Colombia and Ecuador). When the fruit from the palm is ripe it falls to the ground releasing the fresh Tagua seeds (AKA Vegetable Ivory). At this point the seeds are harvested and set out to dry for 6 to 9 months and then they become rock solid resembling ivory in color, texture and hardness. Now the Tagua seeds are ready to be polished, dyed, cut, drilled and shaped into beautiful beads for Florama's Natural Jewelry collection.
