DESCRIPTION:
Offered is this early to mid-19th century American antique, really nice and especially early, rolled tin sheet candlestick, with circular finger grasp and concave wax reservoir basin. The candlestick is an early push-up candlestick and is an early form, different from the more common push-up hog scrapers, which are also early and from the late 18th-early 19th century. But this form, with the finger grasp and tin reservoir, is at least as early as the hog scraper form, if not earlier. It's light, delicate and features hand lead soldering along its seams. The tin surfaces still have remnants of their original black paint and the candlestick appears not to have been repainted or touched since. It was found here in an early home in interior southern New Hampshire. The side tin push-up finger knob is also intact and in working order, sliding up and down the vertical channel freely and without obstruction. A great early American push-up candlestick, with terrific original surfaces. From early 19th century New Hampshire with love. Wonderful.
