For auction is a lovely teacup and saucer made by Colclough of Staffordshire, England. The tea cup and saucer set is known as pattern number "8240". The cup measures 2 11/16" tall and 3 3/8" wide at the rim of the cup. The footed base measures 1 13/16" wide. The saucer is approximately 7/8" tall and is 5 1/2" in diameter.

The pattern depicts pink flower clusters in bloom with serrated edge detailed leaves and branches on the front and back of the cup. There are little posy blossoms in between the flower clusters in full bloom. These are set on a background of pale pink. The cup is accented with gold trim on the rim, handle and foot of the cup. The saucer is decorated in the same manner with gold trim on the edge.

Colclough Bone China was founded in 1890 by Herbert J. Colclough. He was the Ex-Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent and was well loved by the people. He also loved china and he wanted to make it affordable to the ordinary people and so a company began. He wanted his china to become accepted by royalty as well which he accomplished in 1913 with the Vale China line. He introduced the production of fine bone china to the mass market in the 1930's establishing his place in this rich and illustrious history. As with many of the fine china companies, there was a long list of merges and eventually merged with Royal Doulton in the 1970's.

The teacup and saucer are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. They were lovingly used as there is some wear to the gold trim. The pieces are signed "Bone China, D 76 0, Colclough, Made in England, A Product of Ridgway Potteries Ltd". The cup is further marked with "Patt No 8240". The tea cup and saucer were made circa 1962.
