Up for sale is this Washington DC, Charter #3625, $10.00 1929 Type-1 Small Size.  Fr. #1801-1, with treasury signatures of Edward E. Jones as Register of the Treasury and Walter O. Woods as Treasurer of The United States.  The cashier of this bank is R.H. Lacey and the President of the bank is Frank J. Stryker.

This bank chartered on January 27, 1887.  The bank issued 77,266 small size notes, from 1929 thru July of 1935 when the note issuing period ended.  Washington DC had a total of 25 issuing banks, located in the District of Columbia.

The note is cut close at the bottom margin, just touching the black holding line.  There is also a tiny 1/16 “ long x 1/32” deep piece missing in the bottom margin at the left, just under the Cashier’s signature.  I do not see any rips or tears, but there is a pinhole in the left margin at the horizontal crease.  I grade this note as a Fine, but you look at the scans and judge for yourself. The Kelly Census shows 50 small size notes reported, 21 notes are $10.00 Type – 1’s, 11 notes are $20.00 Type - 1’s, there are no reported $5.00 Type – 2’s, 7 notes are $10.00 Type – 2’s and 11 notes are $20.00 Type – 2’s.  This note is unreported in the Kelly census, the winning bidder can report the note.

This note would make a fine addition to any District of Columbia and / or Maryland banknote collection.  The bank was located in the District of Columbia, of which only 2 towns issued National Currency. This note should appeal to those collecting the District of Columbia and its surrounding areas.  Don’t let this note get away!
