DESCRIPTION.
Resient Damp Seal Water Based Epoxy is a 62% solids 2K water based, tough medium build coating for application on to damp concrete floors and rendered substrates, walls etc. Ideal for damp surfaces above ground, it provides a hard, wear resistant, water resistant seamless, smooth, glossy and chemically resistant surface which can be easily cleaned. Apply 2 coats. Formulated to be application friendly, offering a more environmentally friendly option as the product contains no solvents and is cured with a low odour hardener. Resient Damp Seal Water Based Epoxy is a more economical option due to increased coverage per litre.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
PREPARATION
–FLOORING.
Do not
apply in temperatures below 10 °C/50 °F. Substrate humidity should be ≤
80%. The concrete base must be ≥ 25 N/mm². If floor unevenness is significant a
polymer modified screed can be used to level. Contact us for advice.
Ensure the
substrate is clean and free from loose material, contaminants, oils etc.
The
wall/floor joint is the weakest part and sealing the floor could push damp to
the edges.
If you
suspect possible water migration it will be necessary to extend the damp proof
coating from the floor edge up the wall by 200mm. Contact us for advice.
Previously coated surfaces.
If applying
over an existing coating, identify the type of coating. If you suspect that the
coating is a polyurethane or an acrylic then remove it completely. Epoxies are stronger and have a higher adhesive strength and may ‘pull’ the previous coating off. Epoxy
on Epoxy is fine provided it is well adhered and sanded. Remove any
contaminants, oil/grease using a light
degreaser and use a physical preparation method.
New Concrete.
New concrete should be allowed to cure and dry for a minimum of 7-14 days.
Power floated floors and screeded floors should be prepared using a physical
method as mentioned above. You do have the option to acid etch.
Priming.
Priming is only necessary on very porous surfaces. Assess the porosity of the surface first. New or very porous damp substrates should be primed with Resient DAMP SEAL WATER BASED EPOXY CLEAR first.
PREPARATION
–WALLS.
Do not
apply in temperatures below 10 °C/50 °F. Substrate humidity should be ≤
80%. The walls should be sound and free from friable loose material, contaminants, oils etc.
MIXING.
Mix the A
Pack thoroughly. Pour the complete contents of the B Pack into the larger A
Pack. Mix thoroughly with a drill and paddle for a minimum of three minutes to
ensure uniformity. Pay attention to mixing the sides and base of the container.
Once mixed, the resin and activator start reacting. You have a specified amount
of time to use the coating. This is the Pot Life 1-2 hours depending on application temperature. A large volume plus generated heat of
reaction will speed the reaction up and reduce pot life. By pouring into several
roller trays, it will help to dissipate heat and so help to maintain the quoted
pot life.
APPLICATION–FLOORING.
Apply the
first coat. Use a brush to ‘cut in’. Use a medium pile roller for the main
body of coating. Apply thinly and do not allow to ‘well’ in small holes etc. Wait
the designated time before applying the second coat. If applying a
polymer modified screed over the top, use dry builders to cast over the second coat to create a mechanical key.
FINISHES ON TOP.
ü
If a subsequent decorative hard wearing floor
coating is desirable, and the concrete is less than 1 month old, apply two
coats of Resient Water Based Epoxy Floor Paint.
ü
If the concrete is greater than 1 month old,
apply two coats of Resient SF1000. Solvent free Epoxy Floor Paint.
ü
Slip resistance can be provided by casting
Resient Slip additive FG (fine), MG (medium) or CG (coarse) between floor coats.
ü
A decorative idea is to cast PVA Flake on to
the top floor coat.
ü If covering with vinyl, use a good quality water based adhesive as solvent based adhesives can weaken some liquid damp seal membranes over time.
APPLICATION–WALLS.
Apply the first coat. Use a brush to ‘cut in’. Use a medium pile roller for the main body of coating. Wait the designated time before applying the second coat.
